Information on the Catalogue

All twenty images from Cathy Weber’s Grief Series are available in a beautiful full color catalog.  Produced in conjunction with the Art  Museum of Missoula, this moving work is introduced by Dr. Ira Byock, noted writer and lecturer on end-of-life issues.   Ginny Miriam’s writing offers background and analysis to further illuminate the heart wrenching story told by Weber’s paintings.

This exquisitely bound book is available from the artist for $20 (plus $3 shipping and handling).

LEFT:  Installation view of Cathy Weber’s Grief Series at the Art Museum of Missoula (AMM).
The Gallery was draped with 150 yards of black fabric.  Displayed at eye level on padded pedestals, the art was viewed by hundreds of visitors to the quiet, darkened room.  An alcove in the corner of the room housed a writing desk, lit by a small lamp, holding a book made by the artist, in which viewers were invited to make drawings and/or comments.  Many responded to the startlingly intimate pieces with tears and heart-felt thanks to the museum staff.

This work was brought to AMM in co-operation with the Missoula Demonstration Project as part of its ongoing exploration of the issues arising at end of life.  Gallery talks, a film screening and a panel discussion at the museum complimented the artwork.

The Grief Series is available for future exhibition.

Minimally, the work needs 50 to 70 running feet of display area.   A more elaborate installation (such as the AMM exhibit shown above) can greatly increase the impact of the viewing experience.  The artist is available for the development of an installation appropriate to each gallery.

Suggested activities to complement this exhibition include:
- panel discussions
- artist gallery talks
- poetry readings
- collaborative events with hospice or grief groups
- screenings of Appointment with the Blue Dog, a film that addresses drawing and dream work at the end of life.

A full color catalogue of the Grief Series is available at wholesale prices to institutional retail outlets.

The AMM exhibition and publication of the catalogue were made possible in part by generous support from Sara Coulton Lovell.
