Write Your Obituary

Learn how to reflect on your life by writing your obituary

  • 30 minutes
  • Nashville

Service Description

When you open the obituary section of any newspaper in the United States, you will read obituaries of many persons that follow a particular pattern: dates of birth and death, a vague sense of how they died (after a long battle, peacefully surrounded by family, etc.), their survivors, and a few highlights from their life. What if your obituary told your story? What if your obituary conveyed what you loved most about your living time, what lessons your learned from failure, with whom you spent your time and why? This two part workshop will first look at established obituary formats and introduce us to different, less conventional obituaries that yield different patterns and themes. Then we will take the opportunity of a week to write our own obituaries and share them with the group, if people are willing. If not, we will continue to look at different obituaries that offer a different take on what an obituary means and does. No former writing experience is needed for this workshop.
